Are chiropractic adjustments addictive?

Address the myth of chiropractic addiction and understand why some patients seek frequent care.

Chiropractic

Let’s set the record straight: chiropractic adjustments are not physically addictive. You won’t become “dependent” on them like you would with certain medications or substances.

But… we get where the question comes from. A lot of people feel really good after an adjustment — looser, lighter, less tense — and they want to keep coming back. That’s not addiction. That’s your body responding to better function.

Here’s what’s actually going on:

💥 The “Feel-Good” Factor

After an adjustment, your nervous system gets a bit of a reset. Tension is reduced. Joints move more freely. Pain signals calm down. This often leads to a sense of relief or even a mini energy boost. It’s not addictive — it’s just your body functioning more optimally.

You might want to keep feeling that way (which makes sense!), but that’s not a sign of dependency. It’s a sign that your body wasn’t moving well before.

⏱️ But Why Do Some People Go Back Regularly?

Because consistency matters.
Just like you don’t go to the gym once and expect lifelong strength, you don’t get adjusted once and expect your posture, mobility, and alignment to magically fix themselves.

Some clients come in for a short series of visits to address a specific issue — like back pain, headaches, or sciatica. Others choose to continue with maintenance care, because it helps them manage stress, prevent flare-ups, or perform better in daily life.

Either way, at YFS, there’s no pressure. You’re in charge of your care. We’ll give you a plan based on your goals, not on keeping you coming back forever.

🚫 What We Don’t Do at YFS

  • We don’t use scare tactics.
  • We don’t guilt you into unnecessary visits.
  • And we definitely don’t tell you your spine will “collapse” if you miss an appointment.

Our job is to help you understand your body — and make informed choices about your health. If that includes ongoing chiropractic care, awesome. If it doesn’t? That’s okay too.

TL;DR?

No, chiropractic adjustments are not addictive.
But feeling good in your body is — and we’re here for that.
