In most cases, you don’t need a referral to see a pelvic physiotherapist in Toronto—find out what applies to you.
Short answer: Nope. You can book directly — and sooner is better.
In Toronto (and across Ontario), you do NOT need a doctor’s referral to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist.
Physiotherapy — including pelvic health — is considered direct access, which means you can book an assessment without seeing your GP or getting a referral letter first.
And honestly? That’s a good thing.
Because the sooner you get assessed and start addressing symptoms, the faster you can:
- Stop leaking during workouts
- Reduce pelvic pain or pressure
- Heal postpartum (without guessing what’s “normal”)
- Improve core strength + stability
- Feel confident in your body again
✅ When a Referral Might Be Helpful
While it’s not required, a referral can be useful in some situations:
- If your extended health insurance asks for it to reimburse your sessions
- If you’re working with a medical specialist (like a gynecologist or urologist) and want care plans aligned
- If your doctor is helping you get additional diagnostics (e.g. imaging or hormone testing)
At YFS (Your Form Sux), we can also coordinate with your healthcare team with your consent — you’re never alone in figuring it all out.
🚫 OHIP Doesn’t Cover It — But Insurance Often Does
Pelvic physio isn’t covered by OHIP, but most extended health benefit plans do cover it under “physiotherapy services.”
And yes — pelvic floor physio at YFS is provided by licensed, registered physiotherapists, so it qualifies for reimbursement on most Canadian plans (Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield, Blue Cross, etc.).
We also offer direct billing, so you’re not stuck chasing paperwork.
Final Word: You Don’t Need Permission to Feel Better
If you’re dealing with:
- Leaking, heaviness, or pain
- Postpartum recovery questions
- Sexual pain or dysfunction
- Core or pelvic instability
- Or just want to understand how your body works…
You don’t need to wait for someone else to say it’s “bad enough.”
Pelvic physio is proactive, preventative, and powerful — and you can start whenever you’re ready.
Book your pelvic health assessment at YFS — no referral needed, no awkwardness, just real answers and a plan that works.
