Should I talk during my massage session?

Wondering if you should stay quiet or chat during your massage? Here’s what therapists recommend and why comfort matters.

Only if you want to. You’re the one in charge here.

Let’s be real:
You’re on the table. The music’s playing. You’re finally starting to relax — and then your brain kicks in:

  • “Am I supposed to talk right now?”
  • “Is it rude if I’m silent?”
  • “Do they want me to make small talk?”

At YFS (Your Form Sux), here’s our answer:

👉 Talk if you want. Stay quiet if you want. It’s your session — not a social obligation.

When Talking Helps

  • You need to give feedback (pressure, pain, discomfort, etc.)
  • You want to share info about your symptoms or injury
  • You’re nervous and chatting helps you feel at ease
  • You’re vibing with your therapist and want to talk — totally fair!

When Silence Is Perfectly Fine

  • You’re trying to zone out and rest
  • You need to focus on breathing
  • You’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed (yes, massage can trigger that — it’s normal)
  • You just don’t feel like talking. And that’s 100% valid.

We’re not here to fill space with chatter.
We’re here to help you feel better — physically and mentally.

TL;DR:

You’re never expected to talk during your massage.
If you want to? Go for it. If you don’t? That’s equally respected.

Either way, you’ll never be judged, rushed, or made to feel awkward. We’ve got you.
