Internal pelvic physio involves gentle manual techniques to treat deep pelvic muscles via vaginal or rectal access.
Spoiler: It’s Not Scary — and It’s Always Your Choice
Let’s be real: the words “internal pelvic therapy” can make people instantly tense up.
It sounds awkward. Maybe invasive. Maybe even a little intimidating.
But here’s the truth: internal pelvic floor therapy is one of the most effective, empowering, and body-informed ways to treat pelvic dysfunction — and when done right, it’s nothing to be nervous about.
At YFS (Your Form Sux), we believe in making pelvic care normal, respectful, and clear as hell. So here’s exactly what internal therapy involves — and what it doesn’t.
🧠 First: What’s the Goal of Internal Pelvic Therapy?
Internal therapy helps us assess and treat the muscles, fascia, and nerves inside your pelvic bowl — which you can’t fully access from the outside.
This is key for issues like:
- Leaking or incontinence
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Painful sex
- Constipation or bowel dysfunction
- Birth recovery
- Core weakness or prolapse
- Unresolved low back, hip, or SI joint pain
The internal exam gives us a complete picture of how your pelvic floor is actually functioning — not just guessing from the outside.
✅ What Internal Therapy Does Involve:
- A full explanation before anything happens
- Informed consent at every single step
- A gloved, lubricated, single-finger vaginal or rectal exam (depending on your anatomy and goals)
- Assessment of muscle tone, strength, coordination, and trigger points
- Hands-on release or retraining work (if indicated and agreed upon)
- Constant check-ins — you can pause or stop anytime
- A trauma-informed, supportive environment that prioritizes your comfort
This is NOT a cold, clinical, “just relax” experience.
We take our time. We talk you through everything. You stay covered, supported, and in control from start to finish.
❌ What It Doesn’t Involve:
- Speculums (this isn’t a pap test)
- Metal tools or machines
- Judgment, pressure, or rushing
- Anything you haven’t consented to — ever
👀 What It Feels Like
Most clients describe it as:
- Gentle pressure, not pain
- A dull ache or “release” sensation if there’s tension
- A deeper awareness of areas they didn’t realize were tight or disconnected
- A huge sense of relief — both physically and emotionally
And yes — some people cry. Some laugh. Some say “I had no idea this would feel this helpful.”
All of it is normal. All of it is welcome.
🔄 How Many Sessions Involve Internal Work?
Not all of them — and never the first one if you’re not ready.
We only include internal work if:
- It’s appropriate for your symptoms
- You’re fully informed and give consent
- You feel physically and emotionally safe doing so
Even then, we don’t rely on internal therapy alone. Your care plan also includes:
- Breathwork + core retraining
- External manual therapy
- Movement drills and real-life application
- Strength, coordination, and education
Internal therapy is just one piece of a holistic plan.
